Key points

  • Crises such as climate shocks, inequality and polarisation increasingly define our world.
  • Hundreds of Global Shapers meet at the annual summit under the theme "Next Generation Now".
  • Four themes shape the agenda – from collaborative leadership to climate action across generations.

Climate shocks, growing inequality and political division shape more and more of our everyday lives. Young people are not waiting for someone else to fix it – many of them are already at work.

This week, hundreds of Global Shapers from well over 100 countries come together for the annual summit. The theme, Next Generation Now, makes a simple point: young people are not just tomorrow's leaders, they are leading today. With half of the world's population under 30, their ideas are not a nice-to-have but a precondition for a fairer and more sustainable future.

The summit is more than a celebration. It is a place to learn, build partnerships and speed up solutions. Four themes stand out.

1. Leading together

Complex problems need a different kind of leadership – based on collaboration, trust and shared responsibility rather than top-down decisions. Young leaders invest in spaces where everyone is heard, and they practise the listening and reflection that make such spaces work.

Their message: collaboration is not a soft skill. In a connected world, it is the core of leadership.

2. Redesigning work

Artificial intelligence and automation are changing jobs fast, while many young people still face barriers because of where they come from or who they are. Shapers are working on practical answers – from training programmes to support for diverse founders and fairer economic policy.

3. Innovating boldly

Youth-led innovation often does not tweak existing systems – it rebuilds them around people and planet. Whether in digital public services, health platforms or local climate tools, young innovators show that change starts with creativity and courage.

4. Uniting generations for the climate

Climate change is a challenge for every generation, and the coming years decide how ambitious we can be. Shapers help write climate strategies that put people and fairness first – locally and in global partnerships.

A platform for collective impact

The summit shows what becomes possible when young leaders share ideas and build alliances. What matters now is that their leadership is built into the structures where decisions are made – in Hamburg and everywhere else.
